What does "CE" mean?

On some toys and electronic devices I see "CE" writen on the product. The "C" looks normal, and the "E" looks like the C with a dash in the middle. What does it mean? Is it some certification or something? Does it mean things that don't have CE on it means it is not as safe?

What does "CE" mean?
Officially, CE has no meaning as an abbreviation, but may have originally stood for Communauté Européenne or Conformité Européenne, French for European Conformity.

The CE mark is a mandatory European marking for certain product groups to indicate conformity with the essential health and safety requirements set out in European Directives

Reply:In Windows, CE was a laptop operating system. An earlier version of Windows, NT, which gave Windows a networking solution. Another later laptop version was ME (Mobile Edition). Put them all together:

Windows CE

Windows ME

Windows NT and you get

Windows CEMENT!!

(I hope VISTA isn't like a bag of CEMENT!)
Reply:from what i can remember doesn't it mean collectors edition.
Reply:If you're talking about windows CE, that's the predecessor to Windows Mobile. Some things just throw CE in there for no real reason.
