To be an Agent...?

I am located near the Philadelphia area. I already took the fundamentals course during the summer. I currently work a full time position as a business analyst for a pharma company and I originally took the course because I thought it would be great just to know something about real estate.

I would like to know if this is a bloated question but once I get my certification and I were to work for a broker...would I have to find my own sales? and would I have to market everything by myself? b/c one thing I did not learn was exactly what I would be doing inorder to earn money. Whether its working in the office or showing houses....(I guess this is kind of a tough question b/c I think every broker is different but specifically I am talking about residential.

Thanks

You will be responsible for everything in most cases. You will need to find a way to generate leads. A good way to get leads is through a website people can easily find you on. I know that when you start out, you usually don't have that much money, so I recommend signing up with HouseDiggers.Com.

For less than $20 a month, you get a unique and easy to remember URL, unlimited listings, leads from your area, and more. And don't worry, you don't have to be a Realtor to join. Check them out.

Reply:i've checked into real estate myself. in fact a real estate agency where i live was going to hire me and pay for my courses. once you get your licence you will still have continuing education and a test to past again and again. also you need to get leads to sell houses. you just cant sit back and take people to houses to show you have to find houses to list that will sell......lol good luck. its best you have a friend that can do house inspections on the spure of the moment or follow you around when you are getting leads for listing houses. some agents in my area send out post cards to entire blocks of addresses looking for leads. some buy home flip them and make money that a way.
Reply:Real estate sales is 100% commission - meaning you don't get paid unless you sell.

You don't get paid for office work or holding open houses, those are techniques to meet buyers or sell properties.
